Grouping reports by user group

Greetings!

In our application, we set up user security using roles (groups).  I'm thinking that I can use the Department field in FF to implement this plan?  In that FF has a lot of hooks to allow for custom implementation, I assume I can possibly create an object that has the user groups defined in it along with the description and use that description to filter the request list when it gets displayed to the user (filtering on FF's Department field matching my desciption)?

Thanks!

Scott M.

Re: Grouping reports by user group
Hi Scott,

Yes you can do this in two ways.

One way would be to use the various hooks but an easier way might be to use the Report Set's Data filter strings.

When you edit a report set, click on the System Files button. There you will see four sets of tables listed but also four sets of Filter strings. You could reference the user's department (m.lg_dept is the variable where this is held) in the filters and the user's login (m.pf_user) for the request file (referencing the m.rq_user variable from the Request table) to limit it down.

I'm not sure I'm completely following how you are envisioning the request manager. Do you only want to show requests for a given user and their department? Can you describe what you're expecting the user experience to be?

Thanks

Andrew
