Integration problems

Hello:

I'm back to working on the integration problems (attempting to move my users from 3.0+ to 8 in a VFP 9 environment). The Developer's help files states  the following:

The command line syntax for starting Foxfire! is:

DO ("FOFXIRE") with <function> [,<parameter 1>] [,<parameter 2>] [,<config>] [,<parameter 3>] [,<timeout>] [,<macro ok>]

OK, so I try issuing the following:

DO 'foxfire' WITH 'Requests', 'System',,'ffconfig.prg'

But when I attempt that, I observe the following:

  1. A Designer/Administrator license agreement is displayed every time. How is this suppressed?
  2. I receive an error "Unknown member User". I click "Ignore" and receive a "Problem/Suggestion Reporting" window that states "An unrecoverable error just occurred (Unknown member USER.) in \FLTOPSDEV400\FFIRE\. Please report this problem so it may be resolved.". I click "Ignore" on that as well, and repeat that process several times, and finally the Request Manager is displayed.

Also, Andrew mentioned startff.exe, but I am not able to find documentation on that exe. I also wonder if there is documentation on any of the following, particularly as to parameters, path requirements, etc:

  • startff
  • ffstart
  • ffstart9
  • foxfire
  • ffconfig.dbf

Regards, Stanley Finch

Re: Integration problems
Hi Stanley.

1. Are your users going to be running as Designers or Runtime only? If they are running as Runtime, then you should create a runtime user account and instead of passing System as the user ID, pass the runtime user account name. From that point on, the user will see a Runtime license and then it will disappear after they have accepted it.

2. On the error, did you send that error report in? Can you verify that the table FFUSERTB is located in that FFIRE folder?

I will post a separate message with directions on using startff - this was a utility written by one of our partners to make it easier to start Foxfire! up in a working environment.

FFSTART8 and FFSTART9 are identical programs - one is compiled for VFP 8 and one is compiled for VFP 9.

Both call FOXFIRE.APP which is the main program for all of Foxfire.

The FFCONFIG table is a FoxPro table that is used with the FFCONFIG Editor (under Admin tools) to create a FFCONFIG.PRG. Unless you are distributing the Admin module and want to let your users modify the FFCONFIG file through the Editor, you do not need to distribute this file.
