Designer Slowness
I have converted my customer from FF3.0 to FF8.0. The customer is complaining of slowness of the report editor. It takes sometimes two minutes to open up the request manager and then when you want to edit a request it takes awhile for that to open up. After you make changes it again  takes a long time for the changes to be saved. There are no error messages and the report is saved and runs correctly.

I first set all the FF8.0 files on a network share and started FF from there. After they started complaining I moved the FoxFire.app file to each local computer and started FF localy but still used the share for the system files. That helped a little but not much. Even on my development machine where all of the files are local I feel it is running slower than it should but much faster that the customer site.
Is there anything I can do to speed up the designer? This is not about running the report but designing it.

Re: Designer Slowness
Hi Randy,

Sorry for the late response. There are a few things that can be done on this but first:

1. How many data items do you have?

2. How many reports are there?

If you have a lot of reports (over 1000) , try putting them into folders and see if that resolves the problem.
If you have a lot of data items (over 1000), you should use a feature that limits the data item groups a user sees to only specific ones, as opposed to "all" of them". What happens when you load a Request showing all of the data items, Foxfire! adds them all to the list and this can take some time. To do this, you need to set a value in the FFCONFIG file. In the GLOBAL SETUP phase add a line that says

pg_hideallgroups and set it to .T. as in

m.pg_hideallgroups = .T.

That should make it much faster.

If it doesn't, please email me at andrew@foxfirereporting.com and we'll get it cleared away.

Thanks

Re: Designer Slowness
Hello Andrew,
I have 875 request and 2000 data items
I did as you suggested and set the pg_hideallgroups to .t.. It seems to have helped on my development machine. I will have to wait and see on my customer site.
I feel some of this may be do to network slowness. The only thing that confuses me on this is that I have ran the version 3.0 right at the same time as version 8 and it doesn't seem to affect the version 3.0.

I did notice on my development machine that I had my data session window open while testing and there were quite a few tables that were not closing after FoxFire was shutdown. (I run FoxFire from with in my application.) Should I be manually closing these table or just leave them alone?

Thanks,
Randy
