Version and Licensing Questions
I have several clients currently using FF6.0 as part of existing applications. Each client has one person who designs the reports.  Most of them are considering upgrading to FF8.0.  If I have read the information on the site correctly, I would need to order the Developer version for myself, and then one designer license for each person (all different organizations) who creates reports.  Users that just run the reports are still covered under the free runtime license.  Is this correct?

If so, all I need at the moment for 1 client is the developer license for myself and one designer license.  I don't see how to order this combination on the site.  Also, as I convert more clients over to FF8.0, I will need to order the designer licenses but only one for each organization - is this possible?  I do not want to purchase additional designer licenses until my clients have committed to the conversion.

Thanks

Re: Version and Licensing Questions
Barb,

You are correct that users that just run the reports are able to use the free runtime license.

When you mention that your "on-site" users are building reports - are they also updating the data dictionary/joins or simply creating reports?

Thanks

Andrew

Let me clarify a few of Andrew's points:

For you to test out FF yourself, all you need is a developer edition. It includes a designer license so you can create reports. If you have another potential Designer *inside your organization*, you can purchase a Developer plus one additional Designer for $395.

If you want customers outside your organization to be able to evaluate Foxfire!'s Designer capabilities, any number of them can download a full working evaluation copy from the home page of this site for free and try it up to 30 times within a 60 day period. Isn't that enough time to see if they like it? (Come to think of it, you could do the same thing to evaluate Foxfire! for yourself first.)

Thereafter, you can Designer licenses in various combinations.

Doesn't that seem like the safest way to go?

Re: Version and Licensing Questions
Thanks Andrew.

The client I am currently working with on FF will design reports and will also be working with the data dictionary functions.

I have other clients who just build new reports based on the data dictionary I set up for them.

What licensing is necessary for each of these scenarios?

Thanks

Re: Version and Licensing Questions
Having developed application that use FoxFire since version 3.0 I know this is the way to go and my clients are already used to FF 6.0 how it works.  I just need to know exactly what licenses need to be purchased for each of them.

Most just create reports from the data dictionary I create but some create new fields and joins as required.

The client I am working with now will be creating new fields and most probably joins as well in addition to creating new reports.
